Most of Europe was occupied by the Nazis during the war and were exposed in various manners to the atrocities of the Nazi regime. After World War II, the Soviets (Russia) gained control over much of the area that had been under Nazi control. Those countries that were not controlled by the Soviets were keenly afraid of the communist regime. Against this backdrop, Alain Resnais produced a short film called Night and Fog which chronicled the Nazi vindictiveness toward the Jews to warn Europe that they must stop other fascist dictators. In this assignment you will view Night and Fog and read The World Must Know to gain a history of the time period.
